How Dossiers handles your data.
Where your data lives, who can read it, and what you control, in plain words.
Where it lives
On your Mac, and in your own iCloud.
There is no Dossiers server.
Your data lives in your account’s folder on your Mac and syncs only through your own iCloud, in your private CloudKit database.5
Encrypted fields in iCloud.
Sync stores item contents in encrypted fields. With Advanced Data Protection for iCloud turned on, they’re end-to-end encrypted.6
A safety net, built in.
Dossiers keeps a daily snapshot of the last 30 days on your Mac, so you can go back anytime. Snapshots are never uploaded, and they’re encrypted too when you turn on encryption.
Encrypt it on your Mac.
Turn on optional AES-256 encryption in Settings › Privacy & Data. The key stays in your Keychain, with a recovery key only you hold. Documents are protected by FileVault when it’s on.7
Understood on your Mac.
Dossiers finds tasks and events in conversations that are already in a Dossier, on your Mac: with Apple’s on-device model on macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence, otherwise with simple on-device rules, which find less. Only the subject and preview are read, and nothing is sent.3
Transcribed on your Mac.
Live Transcript turns speech into text on this Mac, and the audio is never saved.
Who can read it
What others can see, and when.
Passwords stay in your Keychain.
Sign-ins, tokens and keys live in the macOS Keychain. They are never in your files, backups or exports, and never synced to iCloud Keychain.
AI waits for you.
Toolbar AI stays off until you add your own Anthropic key and allow it. It then sends only the area you pick, the app and window name, the page address without its query, any text you’ve selected (up to 4,000 characters) and your instruction. With a key saved, Remember and Save use Claude too.4
AI apps, by invitation.
Off by default. Claude or Codex can reach only the Dossiers you tick, over a private connection on this Mac, and deleting always asks you first. What they read goes to their provider. Siri and Shortcuts act as you unless you apply the same rules to them.
Sign in the safe way.
Dossiers connects through each service’s own sign-in page and never sees your password. Where it only needs to read, it asks only to read. Some services it also updates: tick off a task in Dossiers, and it’s ticked off where it came from. GitHub’s sign-in grants read and write; Dossiers only uses it to read your issues and to close the ones you tick off.
Safe by default.
Links and files in shared Dossiers can’t run code on your Mac. Apps and scripts are never opened, and downloads are checked by Gatekeeper.
Share a Dossier, not your life.
People you invite see that one Dossier and nothing else. Logins you choose to share travel only in iCloud’s encrypted fields and land in each member’s Keychain.5
What you control
Your account, your connections, your data.
No analytics. No tracking. No ads.
Dossiers contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code.
Sign in with Apple.
No new password, and no Apple tokens kept. Each Apple Account gets its own private space on your Mac.
Encrypted in transit, always.
Every connection Dossiers makes is encrypted: HTTPS for services, TLS for mail.
Disconnect anytime.
Privacy & Data lists every connected service and what it can read, in plain words. Disconnect in two clicks, and Dossiers cancels the access at the service wherever the service allows it.
Export my data.
In Dossiers, open Settings › Privacy & Data › Export My Data… You get a folder named “Dossiers Export” with one open JSON file, copies of your documents and a README. It never contains passwords or sign-in tokens.
Delete my data.
In Dossiers, open Settings › Privacy & Data › Delete Account and Data… and type DELETE to confirm. It removes your data from this Mac and, unless you switch it off, from your iCloud.5 Things you delete inside Dossiers wait in its Trash for 90 days by default. We can’t export or delete anything for you: it never reached us.
